Psiloritis is characterized by great diversity of landscapes and has a large number of endemic species of plants. In the Municipality of Anogeia about 40% of the endemic plants of Crete are found. Among the most important endemic species of plants are Origanum dictamnus, Zelkova abelicea and Cephalanthera cucullata.

One of the most impressive species is Crataegus monogyna, which grows as a shrub or small tree. In June Crataegus monogyna fills with white flowers and looks like a snowy decorated flower; it then develops small red berries. Crataegus monogyna is found in the entrance of the archaeological site of Zominthos and for that reason it has become a wonderful reference concerning Zominthos.
